Recovering lioness is taken back by her pride

I have just come back from patrol and wanted to tell you all that I saw the recovering lioness near to where she was yesterday.

It is early days but she seems to be moving around well, and I was also pleased to see that she is now back among the pride. All 24 of them were around on the edge of the thickets.

That is so great! thank you for letting us know. i wonder how did she get her body stuck inside that snare or had that snare stuck right under neath her shoulders? usually animals have their necks or legs stuck with snares; but an upper body? if she could get her shoulders and front legs through, i would think she would be able to get the whole body through. was she crawling through the snare while she was stalking after some prey? just think if you and the vet did not intervene and the snare was still there. she would have been abandoned by her pride for sure; and big infection would spread through her body. and the odor of a bad infection definitely will scare her pride mates or family members away for good.

Question for the vet: Can such a deep and prominent wound heal without stitches?

Jeremy, I will ask the vet next time he is in the area, but I guess he thinks it will.

Snares really are one of the most terrible ways of hunting. Let's hope she recovers fully...
