Prides of Mara Triangle

On Wednesday I was pleased to say that the young female who was caught in the snare had been taken back by her pride and seemed to be doing well. Sadly since then I haven't seen her again despite several attempts to locate her.

The Salt Lick pride yesterday in the shade of a balanite tree.

This morning I also saw the Six Boys.

This is a coalition of six males, with one older male and five young males. One of the young males was injured last week after a fight but is now strong and healthy again I know that Kimojino has spoken about this group before, and today I received an email from Sarah Skinner who believes that the old male is Notch from Big Cat Diary.

Sometimes the Six Boys are together with the four females who are also in the same area, although often they are mostly apart.

With the wildebeest migrating back up from Serenegeti we know that these prides are going to feed well over the next few days.

Wilson - I saw "the boys" during my recent stay in the Mara. The oldest male with the beautiful black male possibly could be Notch? Have posted a link to URL that shows some photos I took of him. Don't know if this will work.

Hi Dana, yes, looks like you got some shots of Notch to, lovely photos. I have a feeling we may have been there with you photographing at the same time! (we were self driving) I have had a good look at some of the photos we took in Sept 06 and cross checked whisker patterns/ear markings and all seem to match and he just had the demeanor that we know well of Notch. Also had some of the photos checked by some of the Big cat team, with whom I in contact with and the verdict seems to be ...yes its him!

Hey Sarah, Naitoi showed me the photos you sent him of Notch - looks definitely to be the same male.

Sauwah - do you have the video up online?
