New Target for Kisaru Maasai Community Project

Small village near Ngos Nantokie

The long drop toilet that is being constructed near Oloosinon is now almost complete. There was this update to show the work in progress, and yesterday the toilet looked like this.

Construction should be completed by Thursday.

What's underground is now complete and it's just the walls and roof to be finished now. There will be two toilets inside.

Two doors will enter into the long drop.

Originally we were raising money for one long-drop at a time, but we have soon realised that this actually makes the operation more expensive as it means travelling to Kilgoris to buy the materials each time. It would work out far cheaper if we aimed to raise enough money for five toilets and then built them simultaneously in the area.

The target now is $1,275, of which we have raised $355. If you would like to make a donation please do so by using the chipin widget on this page here

Thank you everyone for your donations so far. I can't think that most people would consider a toilet as an ideal Christmas present but in this instance it would make the perfect gift to the communities here.

Hi William,

I'm impressed by the projects Ben has been launching to improve sanitation and energy usage in Maasai villages.
I am the chairman of a recently founded Swiss NGO, "Econosphere Projects". Our goal is to assist rural communities within Sub-Saharan Africa to break free of their structural constraints and improve their quality of life. We have decided to establish Econosphere Projects ’s first base of operation in Kenya in the Mara region and to work with the local communities there.
We are going to be in the Mara from August 27 to Septmenber 2, and we would be very interested to learn more about the current Maasai Community Projects. We are looking for existing projects which we can support financially and/or with expert knowledge. At a later stage, we might also be able to help in disseminating successful interventions to other communities in the Mara region.
I would appreciate if you could help us to get in touch with Ben or representatives of the Maasai Community Project.
Regards,
Ingo
