The Winner of the Most Responsible Safari Guide 2008...

... will be announced shortly.

Thank you not only to all the resident drivers, but to also all the tour operators for the outstanding responsible behaviour this busy Christmas period.

No longer do our Anti-Animal Harassment Vehicles appear over the brow of the hill and we see each vehicle quickly reverse away from the animals. It is also great to see drivers sticking to the five vehicles only rule on any major animal sighting. The improvement is fantastic and truly sets us apart as a destination for responsible safari game drives. Thank you everyone, may we keep this up for the rest of 2009.

This is great news. Except it's far from what my friends and I saw on Jan 7th, when at one point 18 vehicles surrounded a pride of lions feeding on an adult hippo in an almost complete 360 degree circle! We stayed back and watched for over half an hour as more and more vehicles came piling in - not a sinlge one waiting until there were less than 5 vehicles, by the end of which there was a new track directly from the main road to about 4m from the carcass.

Hello Camille, sadly not every day is perfect. Did you get my email?

This was the first morning in a while our anti-animal harassment vehicle didn't go out in the morning and as you noticed immediately the behaviour of drivers was completely different. It makes me realise that the work of the anti-animal harassment vehicles is not understood by visitors nor drivers...
