The Rhinos of Ol Choro

Just over an hour's drive from Oloololo Gate is Ol Choro Oiroua

Slowly getting to grips with GPS and Google Maps

Apart from the four/five kilometres of really (really) bumpy road through Mara Rianta, it's actually a great drive with plenty of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles to look at along the way and the road is even good enough to be in a hurry if you want to be.

Turn off at the sign for Mara Safari Club, and a few kilometres in you'll see a sign on the right for Ol Choro Main Station, which is also where you'll see a lot of these:

Kofi Annan and Mother

There are six white rhinos in total; two full grown males, two full grown females, one sub adult female and one male calf - Kofi. And not only are they massive, but you can actually get out of your car and walk among them.

It costs US $5 each for adults to visit, and if you have children you can throw them in amongst the rhinos for free.

Rangers and Rhinos.

We're going to be putting up a page about Ol Choro on our website, under Visitor Information, as it is one of the highlights of the Mara. If you think we should mention any other places of interest in the Mara, get in touch and we'll add them to the site.
