Video of Rhino being treated.

The day before yesterday there was an interaction between two of our male rhinos. One, it seemed, was quite badly injured around the eye area so the KWS vet Dr Dominic Mijele was called in to take a look.

In the video you can see that rangers had to pull down the rhino as the tranquilliser did not take full affect. The wounds were then looked at, cleaned up, and then the rhino revived. Within seconds the rhino was fine and eating again (although looked a bit like a Jackson Pollock painting).

Can't view this at work, but glad to hear Dr. Mijele was able to treat the rhino. Hoping the rhino will mend quickly and there was no damage to the eye. Why would the rhinos be fighting? Is it rhino mating season, or are rhinos territorial (I didn't think they were)?

Holy cow - that wound was quite deep! The rhino looks like he got into a bad bar room fight after treatment. Quite a video!!

William at least you have some great people who work there. to care for the wounded animals. May you and your people have many blessings for the fine work you do.

Top marks to Dr. Mijele and the courageous man of the ranger cum capture team. We must be thankful that there are Kenyans out there fighting every day for wildlife, the environment and local communities. If it were not for them, we would not have a Masai Mara CA!!!

And please for a moment .... just remember - and believe me - trying to down a fully able adult black rhino bull (or cow) is no mean thing. They are wild animals, so the 4 rangers pulling the tail of him are literally in at the helm and putting themselves at some risk ... and all to save a very criticallly endangered black rhino. On the Masai Mara every rhino counts ....!!!!

So please give generously to the appeal!!!
