Hello Frans
The Mara Triangle is the North-Western part of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, and since 2001 poaching activities in the Triangle have decreased dramatically and poachers now tend to stay on the Serengeti side, or try to move up through the Triangle in a night and make it to the Narok side of the Masai Mara.
We are therefore able to report on large numbers of snares collected and poachers arrested because our rangers regularly patrol in the Serengeti. Also, from time to time our rangers patrol on the Narok side of the Masai Mara when poaching activity is reported near the river. We also work with fourteen community scouts up on the escarpment, outside of the Mara Reserve, who carry out de-snaring and anti-poaching patrols.
We therefore work with those on all three sides of the Triangle, but of course there is so much more that could be done with extra funding.
Hello William,
thanks for the reply. I have been reading this blog and other blogs through Wildlifedirect, only recently and am getting more respect, by the day, of what is being done by rangers and others to protect the wildlife. It's a pity here is so little attention from other countries for this aspect of wildlife protection, so the funding could be higher. I am currently translating a part of this blog (the urgent appeal page) in Dutch, so I can send it out to everyone I know, and see if they want to donate some money (directly, or through me as not everyone has suffcient english knowledge and or paypall).
Frans that is a great idea.
Asuka and I have been wanting to also translate the appeal into Japanese and French, although currently I am working on the actual page itself and updating it in English. It will soon appear here on this website under Support.
Thank you for your help and support.
William, maybe there are others willing to translate it into their native language, if you should want that.
I am willing to put some effort in translating into German if you want, just let me know.

I was wondering: how are things related to poaching in the neighbouring area's? I cannot imagine that there is only being poached in the Mara Triangle. I understand from several posts there is a cooperation with the Tanzanian Rangers, which is good offcourse. But are there any others you cooperate with? Like the Masai Mara Reserve? After all, I think the whole area benefits from the efforts made in the Mara Triangle.
