We were very sad to hear of Nigel Pavitt’s death, he was 86. He was a renowned photographer and author. Nigel was one of our Board members until August 2009 and acted as Chairman in 2005 and 2006.
The President visited the Triangle with his family and friends on the 6th and 7th. They had a game drive followed by a picnic lunch at Kiboko Camp on the 7th.
For the most part June was dry, with a few days of very overcast, drizzly weather around the full moon – 8 -16th and again towards the end of the month.
We had two days of heavy rain just before the full moon on the 10th. We then continued to have sporadic showers for a few days before the dry season set in.
We normally expect June to be a dry month but the weather pattern that has been typical all year continued with two weeks of sunshine followed by several days of heavy, prolonged rain in the evening and at night.
There were evening thunderstorms for the first few days at the beginning of the month, especially along the escarpment and between Mara Serena and Oloololo Gate.
The first half of June was very wet, after an un-seasonally dry April and May. The heavy rainfall coincided with an increase in tourism and the roads were again badly damaged as a result.
The heavy rains continued into early June, with exceptionally heavy storms on the 1st and 2nd. The rains then subsided until the last week of June, when we had one or two storms and a few days of scattered showers.
The rains continued through the first week of June, making it difficult to cut grass and grade the roads. The rains eased off by the middle of the month, with a few sporadic thunderstorms.
