There was heavy and widespread rain for the last three weeks of April, thoroughly soaking the ground and severely damaging the road from Oloololo Gate to Mara Serena.
There were some sporadic storms throughout the first three weeks, thereafter the weather was wonderfully warm and clear, with hot sunny days and cool clear nights.
The heavy rains experienced at the end of December continued through the first ten days of January, with some areas receiving as much as 350 mm (14 inches) of rain during the whole period.
There were heavy and widespread rain storms in the last ten days of December, one storm washed a vehicle over the Sabaringo lugga, near Kichwa Tembo, and nearly washed away a culvert between Kichwa and Oloololo Gate.
There were several scattered storms in early November. We then had two weeks of comparatively dry weather before some heavy and widespread rain in the last week.
The first three weeks of October were dry – we then had heavy rain for a few days. It would appear that the rains are starting reasonably early this year, usually an indication that wew are in for heavy and sustained rains.
There was heavy rain over the whole Triangle on the 11-12th and again in the last week of August. This was most welcome on the burnt areas and has led to a strong green flush of grass.
There were several very heavy storms over most of the Triangle just after New Year, again starting the 13th and continuing intermittently for the remainder of the month.
The rains started at the beginning of the month with daily showers, they then petered out and November was, on the whole, dry with beautiful sunny days.
Daily showers in early July and, in places, local storms continued to hamper our work programme. However, the weather cleared for two weeks and we were able to grade the main Mara Bridge to Oloololo gate road and all the roads to Kichwa, Mpata, Olonana and Little Governors.
We normally expect June to be a dry month but the weather pattern that has been typical all year continued with two weeks of sunshine followed by several days of heavy, prolonged rain in the evening and at night.
