The month began with a hot, dry, spell in almost every part of the Park. 

President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the Mara Triangle on the 3rd.  He arrived in the morning and left after a late lunch. 

July was hot and sunny for most of the month, albeit very hazy as a result of fires in Tanzania. 

For the most part June was sunny, albeit with a smoke haze, from fires in Tanzania. 

The heavy storms continued through the first ten days of the month, before easing off for the remainder of the month – with glorious, sunny days and cold nights.

The rains continued with a vengeance at the beginning of April and continued for most of the month, causing a number of rivers to flood. 

There were one or two isolated storms throughout the month but, for the most part, March was characterised by hot, sunny days.  

February, for the most part was dry and hot (the hottest February in 30 years), although we had a few days of exceptionally heavy rain around the 20th.

Exceptionally heavy rainstorms in the first ten days of January did a great deal of damage to the roads, especially close to Oloololo Gate. 

A Mr Joseph Tipanko ole Karia submitted a petition to the Senate entitled “The financial mismanagement and irregularities in procurement by the County Government of Narok”. 

November was for the most part dry and sunny, with the rains only starting in earnest on the 26th.

Rain stopped at the beginning of the month but then returned with a vengeance on the 15th, with several extremely heavy storms, before subsiding again during the last week.

We had light rain for first week of September – it then dried out for ten days before we had two days of very heavy rain from the 17th and then again at the end of the month. 

We had a couple of days of rain in the middle of the Triangle around the 6th.  This was followed by several days more rain, some heavy, from the 10th.

We had several days of light showers from the 10th and then again from the 25th. 

The first three weeks of June were wet, with all-night showers on several occasions and one or two heavier storms in the evening. 

The long rains failed over most of the country, certainly April and May were driest for the past twenty years in the Mara. 

The April rains appear to have failed and unless we see any substantial rain in May we can expect a severe drought – we can expect intermittent storms between June and November, but they will probably be insufficient for significant grass growth. 

The rains started on the 12th – several days of all night rain, followed by cool, overcast days. 

There was sufficient rain through the first week to maintain grass growth.
