The security crisis precipitated by the contested election results eased as the two main parties began negotiating a political settlement under the chairmanship of Dr Koffi Annan and his committee of eminent persons.
We had some very heavy thunderstorms around the 13th, this was followed by a week of glorious, sunny weather before the rains returned with a vengeance over Christmas, when we had cold, drizzly and overcast days.
The month started with several days of rain and overcast days. There was a heavy thunderstorm on the 8th, which was then followed by two weeks of heavy and widespread rain that first brought in the wildebeest and then sent them South again.
We had heavy drizzle on the 3rd, it was followed by a few days of dry weather before we had a week of heavy rain and drizzle from the 13th. The river came up a foot as a result of the rain.
The heavy rains continued into early June, with exceptionally heavy storms on the 1st and 2nd. The rains then subsided until the last week of June, when we had one or two storms and a few days of scattered showers.
We had very heavy thunderstorms during the first week of April, these storms continued throughout most of the month, with a little respite in the last week.
There was an exceptionally heavy rainstorm on the 14th, over 100 mm in near Mara Serena. This completely flooded some areas and washed away sections of road.
We had heavy thunderstorms for the first week of February, we then had two weeks of beautiful weather before the rains returned for a few days towards the end of the month.
Most of November was relatively dry – unusual for this time of the year. However, there were one or two storms at the very end of the month – this should signal the start of the rainy season.
The rains continued daily throughout most of October, with some exceptionally heavy storms along the escarpment and isolated storms over the rest of the Triangle.
We had over two weeks of rain starting on the 4th. This rain was sufficient to turn all our burnt areas a brilliant green, filled some of the water courses - and attracted thousands of animals.
