We had 10 days of heavy and sustained rain amounting to nearly 200 mm.  We have several days when the sun didn’t shine, overcast and drizzle most of the day and rain all night. 

We had a total of 1,111.87 mm (44.5”) of rain in 2023.  January will go down as the wettest in recent years, with over 275 mm (>11”) at Serena. 

We had some rain in early January, but for the most part the month was hot and dry.  We are very fortunate, there is ample grass, there is more than a green tinge and grass is actually growing. 

President Kenyatta visited the Triangle with his family on the 4th.

There were some heavy storms throughout  January,  making road repairs very difficult.  This was definitely some of the heaviest and most sustained rainfall in many years.  

We had heavy and widespread rain for over a week around the middle of the month, this sent all the zebra North and there were large crossings for several days.  

The month was characterised by rain almost every day, culminating in some very widespread and heavy storms in the last week. 

There were two days of heavy and widespread rain on the 3rd and 4th, a spin-off from a cyclone off Madagascar. 

The heavy rains experienced at the end of December continued through the first ten days of January, with some areas receiving as much as 350 mm (14 inches) of rain during the whole period. 

Heavy rains continued daily for the first half of the month, leaving large expanses sodden, with tall grass and no animals. 

The exceptionally heavy rain at the end of December and early January caused very considerable infrastructural damage in the Triangle. 

There was widespread unrest after the elections at the end of December, started because of allegations of vote rigging in the Presidential election. 

We had 20 days of glorious weather before the rains returned.  We then had ten days of heavy, localized thunderstorms. 

There was exceptionally heavy rain in the last few days of December and first week of January, some of the seasonal watercourses flooded and the areas adjoining the river road became a foot-deep swamp. 

We started the month with glorious, sunny weather before having a few days of local thunderstorms. 

For the most part January was dry, although we did have a few thunderstorms throughout the month. 

Exceptionally heavy rainstorms in the first ten days of January did a great deal of damage to the roads, especially close to Oloololo Gate. 

Two weeks of scattered showers and thunderstorms kept the Triangle green for most of December.  

The rains returned on the 10th and continued for two weeks before tailing off. 

The complete lack of foreign visitors is starting to have a major impact beyond the tourism industry.
