July was, for the most part, very dry, with a few isolated showers to settle the dust. However, there was a very heavy smoke haze and poor visibility for much of the month, caused by fires in the Main Reserve and Northern Serengeti.
July was dry for the most part, with only the occasional shower in the evenings. This meant that the Mara dried out exceptionally quickly and triggered the migration after the 15th.
July was the driest since we started operations in the Mara – one very local storm near Ngiro-are and one or two showers in the West and South of the Triangle.
Daily showers in early July and, in places, local storms continued to hamper our work programme. However, the weather cleared for two weeks and we were able to grade the main Mara Bridge to Oloololo gate road and all the roads to Kichwa, Mpata, Olonana and Little Governors.
The dry weather continued well into July, with cool, sunny days. There were a few days with generalised rain and light drizzle after the 20th and then the weather reverted to dry, sunny days until the last few days of the month..
We had a number of rainstorms between the 4-11th and then intermittent, heavy, showers for the remainder of the month, ending with a storm on the 29th.
